The firm grow out of a zeal of the Principal Architect Amitabh Sarma to work for the betterment of the North Eastern region where he belonged and could relate to its environment and people.
The firm was established in 2002 as AKAR and later in 2012, the proprietorship firm Akar Foundation was formed. In its more than 20 years of existence, AKAR Foundation has carved out a name for itself for its commitment to Architectural excellence and professionalism.
Akar Foundation comprises of a team of extremely experienced and knowledgeable professionals adept at handling complex and diverse projects at various levels.
Akar Foundation has its team of Architects, Engineers, Structural Engineers, Draughtsman, Junior Architects, Junior Engineers, MEPF Co-consultants who can handle projects at various levels to the satisfaction of the clients.
Architect Amitabh Sarma completed his Graduation in April 1996 from Sir J.J.College of Architecture, Mumbai. Since then he has engaged himself in the designing & planning of various residential, commercial, industrial and educational projects as well as various interior projects of repute in Mumbai. He worked with Architect Tehmasp Khareghat as an Assistant Architect and was in charge of various prestigious projects like The School of Management, IIT Powai, Commercial projects for the Rahejas, UTI Office at CBD Belapur etc.
The desire to work for his home-state brought him back to Guwahati where he started his Architectural practice from December 1998. The partnership firm AKAR was formed in June 2002 and since then he undertook several prestigious Residential and Commercial projects in Guwahati and other parts of the North East. In June 2012, the proprietorship firm AKAR FOUNDATION was formed which led him to work extensively on Architectural Projects of various nature like Educational, Sports and Industrial as well. Large format commercial complexes (Malls), Multiplexes, Hotels, Apartment buildings, Corporate Interiors, Bungalows - these are his area of specialisation.
Ar Amitabh Sarma has served as the General Secretary of The Association of Architects, Assam, a professional body committed to the upliftment of the profession of Architecture in the region. Ar Amitabh Sarma has kept himself abreast of the urban development proposals of the state
government and has been regularly voicing his concerns for the policies mooted by the authorities for city development. Lately he has been taking keen interest in academics and has been involved with the architectural colleges at Guwahati in the capacity of External Guides.
